Mountain Labs Teknoloji A.Ş. - SUBOL
2024 — 2025 · Completed · Part-Time Long-Term Mechanical Design Intern
SUBOL is an IoT device developed for use in smart homes in Qatar. It measures air quality parameters such as PM, VOC, temperature and humidity and transfers each home's data to a central system.
What sets it apart from ODAK is material and scale: instead of a wooden body, a design suited to plastic injection molding was developed. This meant designing by different rules from the start — wall thickness had to be balanced, every surface needed a draft angle, and the parting line and slider/lifter layout had to be moldable.
In the DFM (design for manufacturing) report prepared by the mold maker, the part was evaluated at 85.16 grams, to be molded on a 160-ton machine with an 8×2 sub gate. The wall thickness analysis showed an average of 2.56 mm and a maximum of 4.87 mm; the draft angle analysis was approved without issues. As the customer side, I reviewed and approved every item of the report one by one.
SUBOL became a product that integrates with smart home systems and is ready for mass production.
As a part-time intern engineer at the company, I took an active role in the device's industrial design, CAD modeling, the DFM process, prototyping with various 3D printing technologies (including MJF) and communication with the mold maker for plastic injection production.
